Biography and life of Saint Amancio de Como

Saint Amantius of Como (Latin: Sanctus Amantius; Floruit XNUMXth century) was an Italian bishop of the Diocese of Como. He is venerated as a saint by the Catholic Church.

Amancio was born in Como, in northern Italy, into a noble family. He was educated in Rome and became a priest. After a time serving as a priest in his hometown, he was elected Bishop of Como by Pope Liberius.

As bishop, Amancio devoted himself to preaching the Gospel and caring for the poor and sick. He also founded a monastery for women and another for men. His evangelizing work took him to places like Milan, Bergamo and Lago Maggiore.

Amancio witnessed many miracles during his ministry, including the healing of the blind and deaf, as well as the casting out of demons. It is also said that he prayed for rain during a drought and that he healed an accidentally killed child.

Amancio died near Como in the fourth century. His body was buried in the Church of San Vittore al Corso, where his tomb is still located. He celebrates the liturgical feast of him on August 15.
