The Lord says: I am the door

On this occasion we will be making a reflection meditating on the word written in John 10:9, where the Lord Jesus Christ tells us: I am the door, come to me, and you will be saved, as it is written in the biblical verse:

John 10:9 (NIV): I am the door of the kingdom of God: anyone who enters through this door, will be saved; he will be able to go in and out, and he will always find food.

In this verse we find two terms that are key, the first is the one that refers to salvation and the second is the way to access it.

So the meaning of this teaching of Jesus is that he symbolizes the access and reconciliation of man with God. Only through Jesus is that man can obtain salvation, under the grace of God.

biblical reflection

In order to understand this meaning of I am the door, it is convenient to make a reflection from the biblical study. Because Jesus the Great I Am was already manifest in a figurative or symbolic sense since the Old Testament of the Bible; as access to salvation.

Christ was represented in what was the door of the ark built by Noah and in the entrance or door of the Tabernacle of God.

The gate in Noah's time

In Noah's time, the door of the ark meant the only entrance to be safe from God's judgment against man, due to his wickedness:

Genesis 6:5-6 (ESV): 5 The Lord saw that the wickedness of man on earth was too great and that he was always thinking of doing bad, 6 and he regretted having made man.

Genesis 6:12b-13 (DHH):12b Seeing God that there was so much evil on earth, 13 said to Noah: «I have decided to end all people. Because of them there is a lot of violence in the world, so I am going to destroy them and the whole world.

From this revelation of God to Noah, this man full of compassion gave himself the task of preaching to the people that God's Judgment was approaching, flooding the entire earth. But no one believed him, only Noah and his family, along with the animals, went through the door of the ark and were saved from the great flood.

Reflecting on this, today the same thing happens with unbelievers, when the disciples of Jesus announce the gospel of salvation:

Mark 16:15 (PDT): Jesus told them:-Go all over the world and announce the good news of salvation to all people-.

Romans 2:5 (NLT): But you are stubborn and refuse to repent and forsake your sin, So you are accumulating a terrible punishment for yourself. For the day of wrath is coming, in which the righteous judgment of God will be manifested.

When Noah's ark, her door was the only access to be saved. In the same way today the only access to be saved is Christ, that is why He says: I am the door.

Romans 5:8-10 (NLT): 8 but God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. 9 Then, since we have been made righteous in the sight of God by the blood of Christ, surely he will save us from God's condemnation.

The Door of the Tabernacle

The Tabernacle contained the ark of the covenant or the presence of God in the Holy of Holies and the people of Israel passed once a year through the door of the tabernacle to the bronze altar. Then after a purification sacrifice of a spotless lamb, their sins were forgiven.

Today the pure and spotless lamb like the door of the tabernacle is Christ, the lamb slain for the salvation of the world:

1 Timothy 2:5 (NIV): There is only one God, and there is only one who can put us at peace with God: Jesus Christ, the man.

We also invite you to reflect on the word of Jesus written in Juan 14: 6 I'm the way, the truth and the life. As well as read the article: We are the salt of the earth and light that illuminates the world.i-am-the-door-4
