Biography and life of Saint Nicecio
Saint Nicecio was a bishop of the early Church. It is said that he was born in Antioch, Syria, and was ordained a priest by Saint Ignatius of Antioch. After this, he and other followers of Saint Ignatius were sent to Rome to present their credentials to Pope Clement I.
Nicecio was one of the seven bishops who returned to Antioch with Saint Ignatius after this trip. In this city, he and the other bishops helped found the Theological School of Antioch, which later became an important center for the study of early Christianity.
After the death of Saint Ignatius, Nicecio was chosen as his successor as Bishop of Antioch. As such, he had an important role in the Jerusalem Council in AD 100, where many important issues related to the Christian faith were discussed and resolved.
Nicecio also wrote several theological and religious treatises, including a defense of the legitimate use of religious images. These works have survived to this day and have been translated into Latin and Greek.
