The psalms are songs, poems, and praises addressed to our beloved Heavenly Father. The precious Psalm 121 it is a song of King David, which brings us hope and joy because even in difficult times, we have nothing to fear.

psalm-1212

Psalm 121

El psalm 121 It was sung by the pilgrims on their way to Jerusalem to celebrate the Feasts of Easter, Pentecost and the tabernacles to worship the Lord in the Temple and offer him sacrifices. This group of pilgrims had to go through various earthly and spiritual difficulties in order to reach the holy of holies. However, they did not hesitate to raise their eyes and cry out for the protection of the Heavenly Father, since they knew that wherever they were, the Lord would accompany them. Hence it is known as psalms of protection 121

This gradual psalm will help us understand a little more what the pilgrims had to experience as they passed through until they arrived home, to be in the presence of the Heavenly Father. Again this road was very dangerous, during the day and at night.

It was a place prone to injury, since they were mountainous paths, from possible plunderers and even from turning away from the presence of Jehovah of armies. It also gives us a clear idea of the great power of God and how he protects his people and his chosen ones, before their cry for his protection. He will teach us to rest, rest and trust in Him with all our strength and in all circumstances.

In Psalm 121 we will find that as soon as the pilgrim raised his eyes to the mountains, a doubt came to him that quickly dissipated and the fellow travelers who accompanied him affirmed their faith, through enriching and real statements. A beautiful song that is comprised of eight verses, where it reminds the pilgrims of the time and us today, that Jehovah is our faithful guardian.

Incredible declarations of faith and truth made by this group on their way to Jerusalem, in 94 words express all the power and glory of Jehovah, the Great I Am and God of Israel.

Next, we will break it down verse by verse so that through the Holy Spirit, we can understand what this group of pilgrims were going through on their way to Jerusalem and be able to give our bible commentary 121. We will also take it to the present day and see how Jehovah of armies will always be our guardian and protector.

psalm-1213

Verses 1 and 2 psalm 121

We will start with psalm 121 1-2 explanation. This psalm is also known as the psalm of the traveler, since the psalmist gives us to understand that he is far from home. Exposed to the dangers of the road and the journey, the cry of protection and shelter from the Almighty stands out.

The pilgrim begins with a question when he raises his eyes to the mountains that were around him and says: where will my help come from? He was halfway and the adversities along the way make him wonder who could help him quickly?

In David's time, many people set up altars on the mountains to worship them, for their greatness and majesty. The psalmist raising his eyes to the mountains, could be thinking about this to reflect, if the false gods could help him in his anguish. The answer immediately came to his heart. It would not be the greatness of the mountains, nor any man who would help him. But Jehovah himself was the one who was going to help him from all the adversities that he had experienced and that he was about to live, until he got home.

Psalms 121:1-2

1 I will raise my eyes to the mountains;
Where does my help come from?

2 My help comes from the Lord,
Who made the heavens and the earth.

Our trust, like the psalmist, should not be placed in riches, nor in men, nor in creation. These things are momentary, have a short duration and do not really satisfy our soul. But on the contrary, our trust must be in the Almighty Creator, the one who has control of the heavens and the earth and everything in it.

There is no leaf that falls, no wind that blows, no animal that dies, without the permission of the Lord of hosts. He is the one who gave the limits to more and who authorizes when they can cross it. The Lord is in control of everything around us and there is no circumstance that we can be going through that is not under the control of the Almighty.

When in our life we are going through great adversities or spiritual tests, the size of a mountain, and we come to ask ourselves who can help us and rescue us?, the answer that we must always keep in mind is: Jehovah, our Creator, Father and Shield.

Verses 3 and 4 psalm 121

In verse 3 of Psalm 121, it is revealed to us that only the Most High can keep us from falling. The road to Jerusalem was full of mountains, precipices and slippery slopes, which they had to cross to reach the most holy place and to present the sacrifices of the God of Israel.

When the group of pilgrims begin to affirm the faith of the psalmist even more, they tell him: he will not give your foot to the slide. They were not denying that the path would be safe and that they must pass through it to reach the presence of God. However, they knew that Jehovah would not allow them to fall down the slide forever, that although it was not easy, Jehovah would reaffirm them because of his great love and mercy.

The Lord Jesus revealed to us that by following Him our path would not be easy and that the attacks would be even greater to weaken us in our faith to deviate from the path. But if our gaze is fixed on Him, our foot will not hit the slide and He will hold us by our right hand.

Psalms 121:3-4

3 You will not give your foot to the slide,
Nor will he who guards you sleep.

4 Behold, he will neither slumber nor sleep
The one who keeps Israel.

The victory for remaining in faith and communion with our Lord Jesus Christ is much greater than the difficulties that we may be going through today. Jehovah of armies is Almighty and he is in control of all things, even the hairs of our head knows, there is nothing that is overlooked. The Lord does not sleep or rest, because he knows that there is a spiritual world that is active 24 hours a day.

The Most High does not tire or faint, is not disturbed or despair, is not overwhelmed or confused. He is the Almighty who keeps his children wherever he wants them to be and his chosen people Israel. Nothing is out of his control, nothing escapes him and nothing happens without his permission.

psalm 121

Verses 5 and 6 psalm 121

The roads and the climatic conditions that the pilgrims had to pass, until they reached Jerusalem, could be really overwhelming. The great heat temperatures and the dangers that come with the night, could easily take away the peace of any human being. But they understood that Jehovah would not only lift them up or protect them from the physical dangers that another person could do to them. He but also of all the natural conditions that surrounded them.

They firmly believed that even when the Sun shone in all its splendor, the heat would not exhaust them, nor make them decline from their journey, because the Lord would be their shadow. Jehovah would give them the protection and strength they needed to get home and celebrate. On the contrary, when the moon will arrive there would be nothing to make them feel fear and anguish because the King of kings and Lord of lords would guard their dreams and their rest.

Psalms 121:5-6

5 Jehovah is your keeper;
Jehovah is your shadow at your right hand.

6 The sun will not wear you out by day,
Not the moon at night.

If we transfer this faith and trust in the Lord to our lives, we could understand that many times we are consumed by the hard work, the responsibilities of life and the evil that we must face every day. Faced with this sensation, we must always remember that Jehovah is the one who keeps and protects us, who gives us strength and wisdom to face all things of earthly and spiritual life.

Our shadow follows us wherever we go and although sometimes we do not see it, it is there with us, it is only necessary to have a light source to see it. Jesus Christ is our shadow, we will not be able to see him but he is there with us accompanying us in every step we take.

Verses 7 and 8 psalm 121

El psalm 121 7-8 it ends with the declaration that Jehovah will keep us from all harm and that he will keep our souls. The psalmist sings with security and joy in the Lord, who will keep him from all evil and everything, what is it? everything.

There are no evils from which our Heavenly Father cannot save us, He affirms that of all the evils that we have experienced or not, He will save us. Throughout the psalm, we have been able to see how his confidence is in the Lord in the paths he traveled, in the earthly evils that surrounded them and in the nature they were going through. However, when he declares that no evil will touch them, he includes evils that can touch or even destroy the soul.

Walking through dangerous, overwhelming, slippery places can put us in a situation where faith and trust in the Lord can fail. We can fall into temptation so that the path is faster and without so many adversities. Taking us to a place apart from our Creator since we have succumbed to the passions of this world.

Psalms 121:7-8

7 Jehovah will protect you from all evil;
He will guard your soul.

8 Jehovah will guard your going out and your coming in
From now and forever.

Throughout the Bible, the King of kings and Lord of lords, exhorts us over and over again to trust in Him, because although it is true that the paths can be dangerous, the reward, joy and peace that He is going to provide us has no comparison. An eternal reward and not momentary as the world offers it. A peace and joy without comparison and in the presence of the great I Am.

The Lord will guard our entrance and our exit from now and forever. From the time we get up to the time we sleep, if we surrender our ways to him and place our trust in Jehovah, he will keep us. When we decided to open our hearts to our Lord Jesus, from that precise moment, we were called children of God forever. As Christians we know that this life is temporary and our beloved Jesus Christ promises us a life after death. Even in eternity we will live in the peace and joy of our Lord Jesus, we will be able to stand before him, confident in his great power and glory.

The Psalms

The psalms are the songs and poems that were written, mostly by King David, about the circumstances that the psalmist was going through. David is a living example of how praise pleases the Lord and that through it we can thank, ask and seek comfort in the arms of the Lord.

These wonderful poems are located in one of the parts of the bible, in the Old Testament and are one of the best known and most studied books by Christians. Not only because of their easy reading, but they are truly divine inspirations, serving us as prayers to perfectly delight in the presence of our Heavenly Father.

One of the most popular and well-known by Christians is Psalm 121, which tells us about how the Lord guards his children day and night, regardless of the place, circumstance or adversity. This song is found within the gradual songs that go from Psalm 120 to Psalm 134.

Psalms of Protection

Throughout the living word of God, we find a world full of evil, full of trials and difficulties. We cannot hide the fact that we are of a sinful nature and that even under the promise, we have turned away from God.

Other times, we are in the way of the Lord and yet trials come to us that can be really painful. This is because we are a focus of attack for the enemy, he knows what it is to be in the presence of Jehovah, he knows that his promises are true and I enjoy him and he does not want anyone to live or enjoy them.

That is why over and over again, just like in Psalm 121, our Creator reminds us that He is our rock, our peace, our protector, strength, keeper, hope, our light, our path….

Among the passages that we find within the Old Testament and New Testament that affirm this truth, we find:

Isaiah 54:17

17 No weapon formed against you will prosper, and you will condemn every tongue that rises up against you in judgment. This is the heritage of Jehovah's servants, and their salvation will come from me, said Jehovah.

psalms 121

This shows us that if the circumstance we are going through is a false judgment or a signal full of evil and lies. We should not be distressed because the Lord will defend us as our protective advocate and will lift us up victoriously.

Psalm 18: 35-36

35 You also gave me the shield of your salvation;
Your right hand sustained me,
And your kindness has made me great.

36 You widened my steps under me,
And my feet have not slipped.

Our Heavenly Father is our sustenance and we will lack nothing, He is our salvation and again we find that our foot will not slip before the world, because He supports us with the right hand of His justice.

Romans 8: 31

31 What then shall we say to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?

Nothing compares to the power, dominion, greatness, wisdom and intelligence of our Lord Jesus Christ. So if He is with us, in all aspects of our life, if His Light and word are our food and guide, who can prevail against us.

The answer is absolutely no one, neither in this field nor in the spiritual, because greater is he who is in us than he who is in the world.

Hebrews 13: 6

so we can confidently say:
The Lord is my helper; I will not fear
What man can do to me.

How wonderful it is to know that our Father loves us, cares for us and shows us his goodness but like a roaring lion he defends us and guards us from all danger. His protection and prompt help is present every day of our lives and in Him we can live confidently.

Psalm 91: 2-4

I will say to Jehovah: My hope, and my castle;
My God, in whom I will trust.

He will free you from the hunter's snare,
From the destructive plague.

With its feathers it will cover you,
And under his wings you will be safe;
Shield and buckler is his truth.

May our eyes never deviate from Christ Jesus and his promises and let us stand firm on the path of life, to delight ourselves today, tomorrow and always in the presence of the Great I Am. We need to be able to live in peace and more so today in the face of so much evil that surrounds us. For this, we must be in the presence of Jesus Christ day and night. It is in the true will of our Our Father, that we have life and life in abundance.

Who will help us? Jehovah! Who will help us and protect us? From all evil that besets us! And when will he help us? From now and forever in Christ Jesus. Amen.

So that you continue in communion with the Lord we leave you this audiovisual material for your enjoyment.
