It's about Euclion, a greedy man who lives with the worry that his pot of gold coins will be stolen. He remains living in misery next to his daughter Phaedria.

On the other hand, there is Eunomia, the sister of Megadoro; a single man who wants to get married. Megadoro comments that he has no problem getting married, but he will only agree if she is a young lady.

He offers Euclion's daughter marriage and he accepts, despite being sure that Megadoro knows about the famous Pot. At the moment Euclion comments on her engagement, Estafila (the maid) is frightened; she might find out that the bride is pregnant.

The marriage was carried out at that time, however, Euclion was tormented by the frightening number of people who were now stepping on his home. Terrified, he goes to the place where he hides the pot so he can hide it somewhere else.

But he did not count on the fact that Strobilus, one of Lyconides's men, had been faster and exchanged the pots. Lyconides confesses to his mother her feelings for Euclion's descendant, asking her to help him convince Megadorus to give him her place of being her husband.
