What is Sound Doctrine?: a message of faith and hope

What is sound doctrine? As its name indicates, it is healthy because it is a teaching that nourishes the soul with the purest love, that of God. Those of us who profess this teaching are called to exalt the name of Christ with deeds and words.

What is sound doctrine?

Sound doctrine is the healthy teaching of the gospel of salvation through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ. It is therefore a doctrine that heals and frees man from sin.

Because the son of man did not become incarnate just to show his wonders and miracles here on earth. But he also came to fulfill in obedience to his father the perfect sacrifice of washing away with his precious blood the sin of the world.

Sacrifice that once executed by our Lord Jesus Christ and ascended to the kingdom of God. He left us the great commission to those who follow him to preach sound doctrine to the ends of the earth.

Even more so, in these times where apostasy has grown alarmingly, to think that the end times are being lived. The mandate of the apostles of Jesus in this regard is to carry out the work of the Lord, preaching the gospel, as Paul commands in his letter to Timothy;

2 Timothy 4:2 (NIV): Preach the Word; persists in doing so, whether or not it is opportune; he corrects, rebukes, and encourages very patiently, never ceasing to teach.

So if wickedness grows, the multiplication of forgiveness must be even greater, for this it is necessary to make Christ known and the redemption that exists in him. Because the solution that God has given against the iniquity of the world is through Christ and his sound doctrine.

To glorify God and not man

The main objective of sound doctrine is to make Christ known and to exalt his name. Therefore, the believer must prepare himself more every day, diminishing for Christ to grow in him and to be able to manifest it not only with words, but with deeds, as the apostle Paul teaches us in:

Galatians 2:20 (NIV): I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. What I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave his life for me.

This teaching must become rhema in the believer, even more so in this world loaded with publicity where the work of humanity is exalted. Therefore, the servants of the Lord must be clear that their work of service is in him, by him and for him.

From the role of the minister or preacher of the church, their preaching must be directed in such a way that they do not see man, but God. And from the role of the faithful to be attracted by the word of God and not by the fame or popularity of the preacher.

If this is not fulfilled, one would be acting contrary to what pleases God and our Lord Jesus Christ, falling into idolatry which is abomination. Because the only one who is worthy of all glory, honor and praise is Christ Jesus, whom God exalted his name above all names.

Philippians 2:9-11 (NIV): 9 Therefore God highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Preach sound doctrine

In the same way, when preaching sound doctrine, one must be faithful to it, and that the center be Christ. Because there is no doubt that there are different congregations within the people of Jesus Christ.

And in these congregations there are their particular doctrines, but the doctrine that must emphasize and prevail in each church is the sound doctrine of Christ. Because in some cases they are given to focus on their own interpretations and can even show rejection or contempt for Christian brothers belonging to other currents and that is not the character of Christ.

A clear example of this is the teaching or doctrine of election, because even today, there are churches that believe in Jesus Christ but remain behind in terms of biblical knowledge. More, it would be not having the mercy that Jesus himself showed for us when we were ignorant in many aspects of his sound doctrine.

Through sincere repentance people can meet God. Learn more about this topic in the article: Repentance: Is it necessary for salvation?

The Doctrine of Election

One of the most relevant biblical passages found in the New Testament on the doctrine of election is the spiritual blessings in Christ:

Ephesians 1:4-6 (NIV): 4 God chose us in him before the creation of the world, that we may be holy and blameless before him. in love 5 predestined us to be adopted as his children through Jesus Christ, according to the good purpose of his will, 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, which he granted us in his Beloved.

In this passage Paul teaches the church that the blessings received in Christ Jesus obey a perfect plan of God for salvation, since before we were created.

Preaching the healthy doctrine of God and at the same time making respect or distinction of people, beyond attracting them to Christ, we would emphasize even more the ties of the sinner. Because we are called to cast the net for the fish, but the one who transforms the fish into a sheep is Christ in him.

Sound doctrine unites the Church of Christ

The conversion of the believer obeys different processes, because only the Holy Spirit knows how he is going to deal with each one of them in his transformation. And this should be clear to every Christian before criticizing a brother regarding his growth in Christ.

It is normal to find brothers with years in the faith, but their experience or their fruits show someone who has grown little in the godly character of Christ. Just like others with a short time in the faith, on the contrary they develop a dizzying and suddenly growing faith with visible fruits of the spirit.

For this reason the apostles sent their faithful converts letters with doctrinal content. In order to instruct them, correct them, encourage them and get them out of any error in which they could be failing.

When the believer treasures sound doctrine in his heart, the different opinions that may exist among faithful of the same congregation or of different Christian communities treat them in love with their brother. We must always treat our brothers with love and see them through the eyes of Christ, as the same mercy that he sees.

Because if God does not weigh knowledge but hearts, less we could judge what our neighbor may think. Regarding this, the apostolic mandate can be seen in a verse of Paul:

Philippians 3:15 (NIV): 15 So, listen to the perfect! We should all have this way of thinking. And if they think differently about something, God will make them see this too.

It professes without contention

The Sound Doctrine has the wonderful peculiarity of being able to passionately discern and debate for the faith without actually having a dispute. We can be careful to respect the beliefs, rights and consciences of others.

The power of grace covers us with a humble, loving, patient, meek and sweet character, in this way the excellent words of sound doctrine turned out to be more pleasant and will obtain greater power in the one who receives them. Let us maintain our convictions, but at the same time let us preach the simplicity and humility of Christian love.

Professing our faith let us await with joy the rapture of the church what are we waiting for. For the people of Jesus Christ, the theme of the rapture of the church is the blessed hope of meeting and being with the Lord forever.

For this there is no better way to wait for him than by worshiping the Lord in spirit and in truth. Enter here to knowWhat is worship according to the bible, and how is it done?
