When Jehovah tells us His name

When God hears the cry of his people in Egypt, he decides to establish a relationship with Moses, who is the one who would free the Jews from the hand of Pharaoh through the Spirit of God.

Éxodo 3: 6

⁶ And he said: I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. So Moses covered his face, because he was afraid to look at God.

When Moses listens to the request of the Lord, he begins to make excuses for not understanding the greatness of the Lord. I am who I am

When we analyze this verse we understand that the word "AM" is the Hebrew word "hayaah", in the translation of the verb that means "to be or to be". In the previous verses of the Holy Scriptures we see that he is revealed as the God of Abraham, Jacob and Isaac.

However, in this verse God reveals to us his true name which is YHWH. When we analyze all the expression that "I AM THAT I AM" gives us, it is understood that his existence is in Himself. Another statement made in this revelation is that he does not need anyone to exist.

In the same way, it reveals to us that He was never created, but that in Himself there is the reason for His being. And finally it reflects to us that he has no beginning or end, He is simply God. 3. Name of God: El-Shaddai

This name was used by God to establish the covenant with the patriarch Abraham. It translates as “God of the mountains” or “God Almighty”. This name is directly related to the patriarchal period of Abraham, Jacob and Isaac.

1 Abram was ninety-nine years old when the Lord appeared to him and said, I am the Almighty God; walk before me and be perfect.

It translates as "I am Jehovah your healer", it refers to diseases of both body and soul

17. God's Name: Jehovah-Nissi

It translates as “The Lord is our banner”: This design comes after Moses won against the Amalekites. Formerly when there were wars they came out under banners or flags that meant where they came from. The name of the Lord was the battle cry of the people of God.

Exodus 17: 15-16

¹⁵ And Moses built an altar, and called his name Jehovah-nisi

18. Jehovah-Mekaddesh

As Christians we know that only by constant communion with our God can we be sanctified. This name refers to that and is translated as “The Lord who sanctifies” or “The Lord who makes holy”.

Éxodo 31: 13

19. God's Name: Jehovah-Shalom

It translates as “The Lord is our Peace”. This is what David declares in Psalms 29:11 where he clearly tells us that the Lord blesses us through peace. On the other hand, it was the altar that Gideon made in Ofra to tell all the people that God gives peace does not die, referring to eternal life.

Judges 6:24

20. Jehovah-Elohim

It is a combination of YHWH and Elohim, it translates as "Jehovah God" or "Lord of Lords".

27. El Elyon
