First story: Carlo

In the first story that the book presents us, he talks about a boy named Carlo and his father Antonio, who worked at a train station. One day during class, the boy is taken out of class and suddenly expelled from it, when he asks his father what happened, he replies that he went because he was Jewish.

Because very few schools accepted Jews, Carlo was unable to continue studying until two months later, when he noticed that things were no longer the same. In the course of this story we will see how Carlo's life changes without understanding exactly what it means to be Jewish.

This story revolves around two German Jewish brothers: Jacob who had a certain mental retardation, which was rejected by Hitler, consequently he is taken by the Nazis. Hannah, her older sister who was in charge of protecting him, counts the stars waiting for her return, and in this way, feeling that she still has him with her.

Third story- Émeline

This is a French Jewish girl who lives in Paris with her mother who is a painter. She goes through a lot of trouble because she refuses to wear the yellow star on her clothes, which is regulation so that she won't be confused with other Jews and persecute her around the city.

Fourth story- Dawid

In this latest story, we are introduced to a Jewish boy named Dawid, living in Poland who, at the young age of 11, must become an adult and face the problems that come with being a Jew as a young man.

Each of these children goes through a harrowing story, while their human rights are ignored and they are in danger of dying. They must experience radical changes in their lives without understanding exactly the reason for this, which made the days of smiles and fun a thing of the past.
