Less than a week to The Irish. The list of cinemas where it will be screened The Irish . This is certainly not the kind of movie news we were planning to publish in Postposmo. But the panorama is what it is: one more than a candidate for best film of 2019 (With the permission of Parasites) is going to be released on the billboard of forty Spanish theaters (the definitive number is 45, although the distributor indicates that the list could undergo modifications). Of course, it is not the premiere that one would expect for a film that is being unanimously applauded by critics and that currently has an average rating of 94 in Metacritic.
*Update 11/11/2019
Internet.
Tristar has just made public the list of cinemas that are premiering The Irishman in Spain this Friday. We have modified the list that we had initially included as a result of the consultation in filmaffinity, South Journal, North Multiplex, Casablanca Cinemas and Odeon Multiplexes. Tristar had not released any theater listings until four days before The Irishman was released.
If we remember the situation that was presented to us movie lovers last year with Roma, by Alfonso Cuarón, we have reasons for optimism (or not total despair, if you prefer). Roma it was only released in three cinemas in Spain (the Verdi in Madrid and Barcelona, and the Albéniz hall in Málaga). With less than a week to go until we reach the release date of The Irish (November 15), the silence around its distribution has been almost absolute. Tristar only advanced the list of 45 cinemas last Monday:

The Irishman: a premiere "misfortune"
After its premiere in these Spanish cinemas, The Irish will make the leap to Netflix on November 27. After having financed the 140 million dollars that the new Martin Scorsese film has cost, Netflix has refused to allow the film to be distributed just as he would have done in the good old days of Hollywood (what Scorsese himself would say). For its part, theaters have not welcomed the very short window of exclusive exposure that the film would enjoy. Somewhere in between this strange kind of understanding has been reached for which there is virtually no precedent.
John Fithian, president of the National Association of American Cinemas (NATO), has described the panorama that the theatrical release is experiencing The Irish as "unfortunate". The problem is not, by far, exclusive to Spain:
"It is very disappointing that Netflix and its owners have not found a way to put a Martin Scorsese film on many screens," Fithian said. "A first-rate director like Scorsese, a cinephile who has made some of the most important films in history."
